Traveling Overseas? Watch Out For These Fees From Your Car Rental Company
When you travel abroad you will face a lot of different fees from different places. Taxes are going to be different, you will pay additional security fees for your airfare, and you will even pay fees to exchange your money! One place you can save money on these fees, however, is with the car rental company, or car hire company as they are known in Europe. When you are renting a car overseas, watch out for these common fees, and don't pay them if you don't need to! Service Fee for Booking at the Counter When you are traveling overseas, make sure you book your car rental early. Even if you do it the night before you need the car, you will save money. Renting the car from the counter will always cost more, and sometimes quite a bit more. Call the car hire company before you need the car to reserve one, or use the Internet to make your booking. Also, try to make your arrangements before you leave America. You will find that this saves you money, as you will not have to worry about exchange rates or contracts written in a foreign language. Remember, if you sign a contract that has hidden fees or clauses in it, you are bound to pay those fees of follow those clauses. When you do your car rental booking in the States, you will be given a contract in English. Late Return Charges Late return charges are a common fee that car hire companies charge, yet this one is quite easy to avoid. Find out the specific time that you need to return the car. This will be different with each company. Some will start your rental day at the time you rent the car, while others have a specific hour that they expect cars to be returned. Even if you return the car on the right day, if it is returned at the wrong time you will be charged a late return fee. This can be as much as a full day's rental, even if the car is just an hour late. Gas Charges Like car rental companies in the United States, car hire companies overseas will usually charge a gas charge. Find out if you can return the car on full to avoid this charge. The car rental company is going to charge more for the gas than you will pay at the fuel station. This gas charge may not be thoroughly explained to you when you pick up the car, so make sure you ask about it. Remember, once the car hire company has your credit card, you can be charged any fees outlined in the contract, even if they do not explain the fee to you verbally. Consider Driving a Stick In Europe, manual transmissions are more common than automatic transmissions. If you need to rent an automatic, you will pay an additional fee. If you know how to drive a stick shift, you should use one to save money on the car rental. Have Drivers Who Are the Right Age Most car hire companies will charge an additional fee for young or old drivers. Those who are under 25 or over 70 will cost more as drivers on your rental agreement. To avoid this fee, try to have someone in your group who is between 25 and 70 to serve as the driver. Additionally, you will pay a fee if you add more than one driver to the contract. Renting a car overseas requires a bit of planning ahead and some research, but it can be a fairly pleasant experience. Make sure you know what fees to watch for, avoid them when possible, and rent the car that you need to enjoy your trip. Soon you will be on the road exploring the country of your choice in a comfortable, and affordable, rental car.

The Fine Points of Hiring a Car - Car Rental Fees Must Know's
The Fine Points of Hiring a Car - Car Rental Fees Must Know's
Renting a car is never easy. The Internet is full of advertisements promising the best deal and they usually give a 'base price' in the range of $70 to $100 per day depending upon the size of the car. However, at most times the companies do not explain the hidden costs or even what constitutes the base price offered. Depending on which country the customer rents a car, the quantum of various fees varies. However, it is best to make informed choices when it comes to renting a car - keeping abreast of all the fees that make up your rental bill is the first step when you head out to your travel destination. Most car companies demand a safety deposit the first time you rent a vehicle. This portion of the rental fee is fully refundable and may come to a couple of hundred dollars depending upon the size of the car. The car rental fee is next; this is the actual charge for renting the car. Most car rental companies also charge a 'contract fee' to cover the administrative costs of renting the car to the customer. If the customer requests for a delivery of the car and a place for collection of the returned car, the company may charge two separate fees, once for delivery and the other being the collection fee. Beware though! A collection point designated in a different state by the customer may attract anything up to a couple of thousand dollars as collection fees depending upon the distance of the collection point from the car company's home office. If the delivery is requested at the airport, a separate 'airport surcharge' will also be applicable. In addition, if the delivery or the collection is requested after normal working hours, an 'after hours fee' may also be charged. Traditionally, car companies charge a state taxes fee should the client need to drive across states. Driving across international borders may even attract a cross border fee - this is a mandatory fee that may be substantial and not easily waived. Also if you have an additional driver, an additional driver fee can also be charged. Some countries also charge a tourism fee for tourists who wish to rent a car. Most US cities charge a flat rate as toll tax, and this can range from $2 to $5 per day. Some car companies also charge fuel charge fee or extra mileage fee. This may depend on what scheme of car rental the customer has opted for. Some companies go by a set number of kilometers driven per day or set number of hours per day. Any excess kilometers or time is then charged as extra fee. In case the customer requires a baby seat or a ski rack then additional fees are required to be paid. In some countries being young, usually under the age of 25, attracts extra fees in the form of younger driver fees. Again look out for the hidden fees. With fancy names such as collision damage waiver (CDW) fees, you may pay hefty sums as much as $15 a day. This fee is not actually collision insurance but more as a guarantee that the rental company will pay for any damage to the rental car, along with a caveat of some 'deductibles'. Finally if you intend to return the car earlier than planned, don't hope for a sizeable refund. Many companies actually penalize you for cutting the rental duration; an early return fee becomes admissible! It is therefore extremely important that you - a prospective customer - are attentive to the ads and the terms and conditions of hire before signing up for a car rental. If you take renting seriously, consulting your car insurance company or your credit card company before hiring a car would be a great idea. In the end, don't fall for tall claims and false promises; choose your rental company prudently and have a worry-free vacation!

The Future of the Car Rental Industry
The Future of the Car Rental Industry
A look at strategies and new technologies that are being introduced in the car rental industry. The car rental industry has been rarely viewed as a world leader in the sense of technological development. In the past, even the quality of the cars being used was called into question, some customers claiming that the cars they hired had been so damaged by previous customers that they were just as likely to breakdown at the roadside as get you to your destination. This situation has definitely changed however; the car rental industry now embraces technological change, providing customers with an efficient and reliable service. One of the largest influences on the car rental industry has been the impact of global warming and more widely the environmental concerns of customers. It is hoped by many car rental companies that by introducing more efficient cars into the fleet, fuel efficiency will be increased and customers will receive a better deal. This is not all of the car rental companies, but some have noticed the niche in the market for customers with an environmental conscience; revealing a wider trend not only in car hire but in society more generally. The most obvious way that car rental companies can reduce their environmental impact is by introducing highly efficient cars into their fleets. An example would be the hybrid cars that are becoming extremely popular at the moment; they bring the benefits of a smaller environmental footprint and cheaper fuel rates for customers. Not all have embraced the introduction of hybrid cars however, some view their introduction as purely a temporary measure that in no way tackles the root causes of emissions. Additionally, the use of bio-fuel cars has been growing, while this fuel is cheap and produces less harmful emissions critics have been quick to realise that if all of the arable land in the world was turned over for the production of bio-fuel plants, then foodstuffs would be extremely short. It is all rather Malthusian but it is a good point nonetheless. Some of the more future conscious car rental companies have been studying the ways in which to change the application of rates to customers. In the past companies would charge for the hire of a vehicle on a daily basis, meaning that if you returned the car just half an hour late, another day's charge would be added to the bill. Many companies have noticed that this is not great customer service and have subsequently introduced an hourly pay structure into their operations. While some profits may be surrendered following this strategy, customer service will be increased whilst a bi-product is that fewer cars will be on the road at any one time. Many car rental companies have been quick to realise the benefits of GPS technology and the ways in which it can aide their operations. GPS tracking devices give the rental company the option to track their fleet vehicles, allowing them to record the way in which cars are being driven and their location. While for many this may be seen as an invasion of privacy, it is not; it is simply a reaction to the large amount of organised crime that focuses on the theft of rental cars. With GPS technology the chances of a company recovering the stolen vehicle are increased considerably, showing that this strategy is simply a way for companies to protect their assets. The introduction of high technology to the car rental industry has been a long time in coming. Whether this is due to a reluctance to change or simply because the technology has not been effective enough is hard to ascertain. One thing is certain however, with the introduction of GPS, biometric data recorders, environmentally friendly cars and revolutionary pay structures; the future of the car rental industry is bright.

The Use of Biometric Technology in the Car Rental Industry
The Use of Biometric Technology in the Car Rental Industry
A look at the arguments surrounding the use of biometric recorders in the car rental industry. The car rental industry has rarely been renowned for its forward thinking attitude and embracement of new technology. However in the UK this is rapidly changing with the improvements in biometric technology. The reason car rental companies are so inclined to take advantage of biometric advances is because they can help to secure their assets and hence improve profitability. Biometric technology however does raise fundamental issues with privacy and data protection; hence it is understandable that many people have concerns with human rights and the protection of their own personal data. This issue goes beyond the car rental sphere, and instead enters a large number of other industries and business sectors. Fingerprints form an important part of biometric recording and are especially important in the rental sphere. Companies now record customer's fingerprints in order to create a biometric ID. One of the pilot schemes for this technology took place in Essex's Stansted Airport. The scheme made it compulsory to submit an electronic thumbprint for any person who wished to hire a car. The forced nature of the scheme however led to many customers feeling besmirched and critical of why they should have to submit personal data. Companies are quick to assert that this biometric data will only ever be used if the car is stolen; this will take the form of handing it over to the law enforcement bodies so that they can crosscheck their own files with the fingerprints taken at the hire desk. Police were quick to highlight the plaudits of the scheme, claiming that it was a response to the large numbers of thefts carried out by organised criminals. This situation is becoming prevalent all across the United Kingdom; with many businesses stating that the data recorded is purely a fall back should a vehicle be stolen. These firms argue that the data will not be used for any other purpose, or passed to a third party. The 'invasion of big brother' claims are quickly discounted, instead the argument that the recording of biometric data will in fact act towards protecting identities is presented. Naturally the reaction of customers was mixed. One startled customer at Stansted Airport felt that the staff members of the rental company were joking when they asked for a thumbprint. On finding out that they were serious this particular customer was dumfounded. The rather articulate response was that companies had no right to employ such an arbitrary and disproportionate tactic to fight car crime. However, the companies have such a right, after all it is their assets they are protecting. One of the issues causing the encroachment of biometric recording has been the increasing numbers of false passports. This touted reason however did not hold sway with many customers; their argument being that if it is possible to board a plane with a passport, then why should an additional form of identity be needed to hire a car? In addition customers were understandably worried about how this data would be stored, seemingly if the government cannot hold personal data securely, then what chance do a car rental company have? Whatever the arguments surrounding the implementation of biometric technologies it is certain that in the car rental industry they are here to stay. It is a case of put up or shut up for customers. These schemes however have not yet been rolled out all over the country; the success of these trials will undoubtedly give an indication not only of how biometrics will affect the rental industry, but will given an insight into how these technologies are likely to encroach on everyday life.

People can get their car detailed, dents removed, paint touched up, headlights restored, auto body repaired, bumper repaired, windows tinted and so much more. The customer is usually very happy about finding an auto body shop to get their vehicle back to tip top shape! However, the customer usually doesn't like the fact that they will be out of a car for however long their car is in the shop, whether it be one day or weeks. Keep in mind that in today's world, convenience is everything! So, to add to the great service that you already provide at an auto body shop, why not have a car rental facility right at your location! This is an awesome opportunity for your auto body shop and a car rental business! You will both gain rewards from conducting business side by side. If you're not sold on the idea, here are a few benefits it will bring to you both: Customers are looking for a good deal and convenience. If they must have work done to their car, they will be out of a car for a period of time. So, if you offer both the service that needs to be performed on their car and a rental facility on location they will save time and money by "shopping" in one place. Both businesses will make profits from one customer. The auto body shop will be able to recommend customers to the car rental business. This works in favor for both, since customers are looking for great service the auto body shop gains a customer. And since the customer uses their onsite car rental facility they also gain a customer. You will stand out! Not many auto body shops offer onsite car rental which can be a hassle for the customer. So, you will attract more customers to your business since you offer more convenience to them. And if the customer uses your car rental facility they will most likely choose your service the next time the need a rental, even if their car is not in the shop. Another plus is that you can also save money in advertisement if you advertise together. You can split the cost of each way your businesses decide to advertise together. You will also get great "word of mouth" advertising since your customers will be speaking nothing but good about your combined business technique! This idea will work since you will not be competing for customers but working together to gain them. One business can get a lot of customers; however two businesses working together can get a lot more customers, which will mean higher profits for you both! What more could you want for your businesses? Remember "two heads are better than one". So, start looking today to find the auto body shop or car rental business to work with and you will both be on the right track to success for your business! Together you will both succeed and reap the benefits of a great business partnership!

How Does Car Rental Companies Work?
How Does Car Rental Companies Work?
by Greg Hansward
If you have travelled abroad you have probably experience having problems with your transportation. This is true to a lot of people this may be the reason why Car rental Companies are so popular and the business are booming because a lot of people opt to rent a car.
The Rental Industry is on rise. This is particularly true to places that attract most tourists. This industry is providing a great service to those people who are really into their comfort and taking their time enjoying their vacation. AN increase in demand of car for rent may not be only due to tourists but also because car owners are now looking for car rental because their car is broken or in the shop for monthly check-up. Also the growing popularity of "road trip" especially for the young ones helped in the growth of the rental industry.
Rental Companies are the people that offer car rental service to their costumers. This company will be the one that will entertain your demands and need for a certain car if you want one. They are also responsible for the pricing of a car or how many discounts off they will give you. Do not forget to get acquainted with the companies different Terms and Conditions when it comes to car renting. If you do not understand these conditions you can always ask a company representative or anyone working for the company to explain to you what the terms are about. This way there will be no confusion and problems will be avoided. Waiver and insurance are offered by the company and it if up to you if you will accept it or not.
These Terms and Conditions differ from company to company. You cannot expect to have the same services offered to you by your past car rental company to this present company that you are renting a car from. You need to remember that making a reservation online will not assure you that you will be getting the exact car that you have reserved online. Change in car model or sometimes the type of car might change. The next thing that you should know is to make that the company will provide you with a car with the features that you needed, like GPS and other important things. Also you need to know that do not expect to pay the same amount that you paid other companies. Each company charge differently.
Car Rental Chains are also one familiar characteristic of big car rental companies. It is the same as food chains it is just that their services are geared more on renting cars. If you have tried renting a car from the same company before and have found their services to be satisfactory you might want to rent a car with the same company. It's in fact advisable that you do transactions with same company as you did before because more or less you are familiar with how the organization works.
The terms and conditions are clearer to you and you can expect to receive the same service that you had before. Do not forget to do a little background check of the company you are having a transaction with. A little search in the net won't hurt. You will at least know if the company is reputable and dependable.

Online Budget Car Rental
Online Budget Car Rental
Renting budget cars online is a great way to save next time you’re on a trip, whether it’s for business or pleasure. There are many websites that offer budget car rental to online customers. In this business there is plenty of competition, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding a good place to rent.
When looking to rent a budget car online, you should make sure the company you’re dealing with is reputable. You should look at a few things when you’re choosing one. These are: cost, reliability, customer service, and selection of vehicles.
Price is one of the more basic things to consider when looking to rent a car. You should try to get something within your budget. When you rent online, you’ll save quite a bit on the rental cost. So it’s worthwhile to consider it as a good option.
The issue of reliability is important as well. A proper car rental firm should fulfill its obligations on the contract to the letter. Getting the right kind of vehicle for your trip is another thing to think about. And then there’s customer service: it’s a big thing. Evaluate it by seeing what kind of courtesy you are extended by the employees of the company you are dealing with.
Online car rental will get you lower prices. But even when you’re getting a budget car online, make sure you understand what all the costs total up to before you commit to anything. There are usually four different rates for car rentals: daily rates with some free miles, daily rates with the mileage billed separately, daily rates and no limit on mileage, or an extended period of free mileage. These companies will charge different amounts for different types of cars. Most of them will have deals on rentals, especially over the weekend. But remember to book or put in your request in advance.
You’ll pay a bit more than the regular rate, all in all. You always have to factor in the tax imposed by the state or province you’re in (most companies will add these). On international car rentals, 10% to 30 % is typically added on top of the standard charge. When you drop your car off in another city, a lot of car rental firms will ask a fee for the drop-off. Ask beforehand whether or not the drop-off rate is included in their regular rate. And there are different policies on gasoline among these companies. Some will ask for money up front and you’ll be able to return the car with an empty tank.
The cost of insurance is another thing to consider. You’re able to buy temporary insurance at the car rental company. If you get limited coverage you’ll be covered for a couple hundred dollars should you get in an accident. If you opt for the extended coverage, you’ll be released from all liability for the car.
Renting a budget car on the Internet helps you save lots of money on your rental expenses. But remember to make sure that you’re not overlooking some hidden costs. You’ll end up paying more if you aren’t careful.

Cheap Car Rental
Cheap Car Rental
In today's world of marketing and undercutting the competition, it's often difficult for a person to know when they are truly getting a good deal with a car rental company. Typically, most people will just go ahead with the deal, even if they feel like it may not be the most beneficial to them, simply to avoid the hassle of comparative shopping or trying to haggle with a sales person. Prices in general have been increasing lately, especially gas prices, and while this has affected car rentals as well, we have a few tips to keep your car rentals relatively cheap. Take a look at these, you'll be glad that you did.
1. Use the internet to reserve cheap car rentals, rather than renting over-the-counter. Many internet sites offer "internet only" discounts -- use them to your advantage and you will save a lot. This is what many savvy car renters will do.
2. Get the very best deal from your rental shop by being smart and getting the most out of your rental experience. Since most car rental companies require that the tank be full upon return, just before you turn in your car, fill the tank with the least expensive gas available. This eliminates the possibility that you be charged an inflated rate for gasoline by the rental company, when they have to fill the tank for you.
3. Try to always rent your cars with the same car company every time. Companies will often reward frequent car rental customers with discounts, coupons, and (if you are lucky) miles.
4. Ask about using your flyer miles as car miles. Some car rentals may actually trade your flyer's miles in for car rental miles. If your frequent flyer's miles are about to expire don't let them go to waste, use them for a cheap car rental instead.
5. To get the cheapest car rental rates, reserve as far as advance as possible; rental firms frequently offer a lower price to those who book early. It is always wise to take advantage of this fact.
6. If you pick up your car early in the morning (just as the shop is opening) there will be a shortage on the cheap car rentals. This means that the company may be forced to give you a free or marked down upgrade.
7. If you need air fare, car rental, and hotel stay (or even just a car rental and hotel stay) a package deal will help you get the most for your money, with discounts on all items.
8. A rent-at-your-own-price internet site will help you find the best possible deal with the budget you give them, but make sure you review the company's history first and make sure that you can't find a cheaper deal before you close it. Once the reservation is made, you can't cancel it.
9. If using a car for more than five days, it is always wise to search for weekly rates. Generally, with a weekly rate, the sixth and seventh day will be given to you at a discounted price. So, keep your eye out for these deals when shopping for a rental company.
10. To reduce or eliminate airport surcharges and thereby save money, always pick up your rental at the shop instead of at the airport.

Confused by Car Rental Insurance Excess?
Confused by Car Rental Insurance Excess?
by Car Guru from DriveAway Holidays
What exactly is Insurance Excess?
When you book your car rental with DriveAway Holidays, the rate includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance, Third Party Liability and Theft Protection (TP). In the event that the rental vehicle is accidentally damaged, (whether the driver is at fault or not) or stolen, the Insurance Excess is the maximum amount the client (renter) is responsible for. Similar to the car insurance on your own car.
How much is it?
The Insurance Excess will vary depending on the vehicle, supplier and the country. In France, for e.g. excess ranges from EUR500-1,300. In Australia: From $385 - 3,300, UK GBP550-800 and in Italy excess ranges from EUR800 - 1,500. So, for instance, if you hired a car in France and the car was damaged or stolen, you could be liable to pay up to EUR1,300. Ouch!
Excess Reduction
There is good news, however. Firstly, the excess amount may be covered by your Travel Insurance so check your policy before you collect your car.
Secondly, car rental companies offer Excess Reduction, an optional charge that will reduce or waive the insurance excess should the rental car be accidentally damaged or stolen. As with the Insurance Excess, Excess Reduction charges vary depending on the vehicle, supplier and country. In France and Italy, it ranges from EUR8-30 per day; in the UK: GBP8-15 per day and in Australia, from $11 to $27 per day.
DriveAway Excess Refund Cover (DERC)
Another option for DriveAway customers is our very own excess reduction option called 'DriveAway Excess Refund Cover' or 'DERC'. It costs $5 per day and covers you for damage and theft excess costs incurred locally up to AUD4,000. So, if you damage your rental car and are charged the excess amount by the supplier, you can claim up to AUD4,000 when you return to Australia through DriveAway Holidays.
Why it's Good
-DERC is prepaid in Australian dollars before departure so there is no worry of currency fluctuations.
-DERC is capped at 40 days so the absolute maximum you'll have to pay is AUD200.
-You can travel safe in the knowledge that if the worst does happen and the rental car gets damaged, DriveAway will refund the supplier's excess charges up to AUD4,000.
-Assuming all the paper work is in order, claims are closed within 14 days.
-You will be working with our staff here in Australia so there will be no language barriers, time differences or lengthy phone calls with someone on the other side of the world.
-Best of all, DriveAway Excess Refund Cover is economical!

Travelling with Kids in a Rental Car
1. Pack enough snacks, sandwiches and water to last the entire trip. It is amazing how the time flies when children are eating.

3. Bring nappy bags just in case you find out if your child/ren get car sickness.
4. Pack a bag of your child's favourite toys. Preferably not hard objects just in case they throw them (speaking from experience here). 5.Baby Car Organiser are great so you don't have to keep reaching behind you to get things.

7. Portable game consoles for older children.
8. Selection of your child's favourite music to sign along too. Either on the car's audio system or an individual audio system with headphones.
9. Arrange the car trip around the child's nap time.
10. Break up the car travel in a day. Don't try to do a 10 hour stint with child/ren in the car.
11. Everyone's favourite driving game - Eye Spy with my little eye, something beginning with...
12. Apply sun-cream to your children's faces, arms & legs. Sunshades on the windows if you have them.

Save With a Peugeot Lease
Save With a Peugeot Lease
The Peugeot Leasing Open Europe program is a great alternative to car rental if you need a car for more than 17 days.
Peugeot Leasing is different from car rental as the vehicle you get is BRAND NEW and you take temporary ownership of it for the period of the lease.
One big advantage of Peugeot Leasing though is the potential to save money.
Leasing v Renting: A 30 Day Comparison
You can save up to $1000+ by leasing for 30 days compared to renting. To view the comparison able, click here.
No Insurance Excess
All Peugeot Leasing rates include No Insurance Excess which is a huge plus.
Insurance Excess is the amount the client is responsible for in the event the rental vehicle is damaged or stolen. This varies according to supplier, but in France, for example, insurance excess ranges from EUR600-2100.
Paying an optional Excess Reduction charge can reduce or waive the insurance excess in the event of an insurance claim against damage or theft. Again, this charge ranges depending on the supplier, vehicle type and country, but in France, excess reduction charges range from EUR9-28 per day.
Potential Saving: Up to EUR840 (based on highest excess charge for 30 days rental).
Additional Drivers
Peugeot Leasing rates include free additional drivers. Although there are certain restrictions, there is no additional fee for extra drivers. In France, some suppliers have a free second driver but charge for drivers thereafter. This fee ranges from EUR20-43 per day.
Potential Saving: Up to EUR1290 (based on highest additional driver charge for 30 days rental).
Young Drivers Surcharge
The minimum age for Peugeot Leasing is 18 years old. With most suppliers, the minimum age for car rental is 21 and surcharges apply up to age 24. These surcharges vary depending on supplier and can cost up to EUR33 per day. Often, though, the surcharges are capped but can cost over EUR300.
Potential Saving: Up to EUR330 (based on highest young driver surcharge which is capped after 10 days).
In addition to the above, all vehicles are tax free, have full factory warranty and come with unlimited kilometres. Travel into most of Eastern Europe is allowed and you can pick up your Peugeot Lease at a number of locations throughout Europe. All deliveries and returns within France are free.
So if you're planning an extended trip to Europe, Peugeot Leasing could save you a considerable amount.

My First Self Drive Trip in LA
My First Self Drive Trip in LA
by Car Guru
You have alot of time on your hands on a long haul flight. On a recent flight to Los Angeles, I was preoccupied thinking about the task ahead - my first ever driving holiday.
I was hoping and praying that I would stay safe on my first shot at driving on the other side of the road. Don't get me wrong, I was really excited to be travelling to the city where all the stars live and movies are made, but at the same time, I was nervous about driving in such a big city, on the oppisite side of the road and finding my way around. By the time I got off the flight, I was wondering why I had ever decided to drive on my own in the US in the first place!
But, by the time I was getting the free shuttle service to the Hertz depot approximately 5 minutes away from LAX airport, my nerves calmed. I thought I've come all this way; I might as well give it a go. Once I settled into the roomy Hyundai Elantra, packed with air-conditioning, CD player, power windows and even a sun-roof, I felt alot more comfortable. After a bit of hesitation and a few wrong turns, driving on the other side of the road was no longer a problem. I was able to get used to it quite quickly.
I was relying on my Seymour GPS unit to help me get around LA for the 5 days I was there, so imagine my horror when I realised I had the wrong memory card! The SD card with maps of Europe unfortunately was no good to me in the streets of LA. So for the first few days I had to do what we all used to do before GPS units became our best friends, and used paper maps.
Not ideal, but I did manage to get to Hollywood Boulevard and to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and back to my hotel in Maria del Rey without too much trouble. The correct SD card did arrive while I was still in LA and the Seymor GPS Travel Assistant quickly became my lifesaver and best friend!
The day before the card arrived, I thought I'd attempt to drive into LA without the GPS, and enjoy some shopping at The Grove and the Farmer's Market. But before I was able to get the chance to put my credit card to good use, I got lost with road works and detours and gave up with frustration and drove back to the hotel. The next day, I attempted the same mission, now equipped with the GPS, I arrived safely, on time and without any problems. (Although it may have been better for my credit card had I not found the shops!)
Without a doubt, a hire car and GPS unit is a must to save time, get around safely and to enjoy a holiday in Los Angeles, California!

Car Rental in Northern Ireland - 5 Must Sees
Car Rental in Northern Ireland - 5 Must Sees
by Car Guru
Long gone are the troubled days that saw Northern Ireland catapulted into the media spotlight. These days Northern Ireland, and the colourful capital of Belfast in particular, are booming. Here are my Top 5 Must Sees. Trust me, I'm a local.
5. See An Open Air Gallery
Northern Ireland's political murals are now famous across the globe. In a small area in the city of Derry /Londonderry called the Bogside, local artists have created, quite literally (it was inaugurated last year), an Open Air Gallery with 12 larger than life wall murals. Giant paintings depict various historical events on the gables of houses and have turned this village into an outdoor art gallery.
And while you're there…Take a walk around the city of Derry/Londonderry-the only completely walled city in the British Isles.
4. Marble Arch Caves
Don't miss the Marble Arch Caves in the west of Northern Ireland in County Fermanagh. These are a series of natural, limestone caves housed under mountains. Get a boat through the caves and have a look at underground rivers, waterfalls and passages.
And while you're there…Take a drive to Omagh in County Tyrone to visit the Ulster American Folk Park, an outdoor museum which tells the story of emigration to America in the 18th and 19th centuries.
3. Belfast
You couldn't possibly visit Northern Ireland and not stop off in the capital city. Belfast is a compact and friendly city with a perfect mix of old and new, with traditional Victorian architecture alongside funky and modern cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops and apartment blocks.
And while you're there… Check out the home of the Titanic in the developing Titanic Quarter. Yes it did sink but the people of Belfast are still proud of the ship built here. As the locals like to say, "It was fine when it left us!"
2. Enjoy the "Craic"
Craic (pronounced crack but 100% legal) is an Irish term which means fun, enjoyment and basically having a good time. A trip to the Emerald Isle is not complete until you meet some locals and experience this phenomenon, most likely to be found in a pub! Irish people love to talk, especially to tourists. It's no wonder the Lonely Planet Blue List 2008 named Ireland as the friendliest destination in the world!
And while you're there…Try some Bushmills Irish whiskey which has been around since 1608.
1. The Giant's Causeway
You cannot, I repeat cannot, leave Northern Ireland, or Ireland for that matter, without a trip to the Giant's Causeway on the Antrim Coast. An absolutely amazing sight, formed by polygonal basalt columns-the result of a volcanic eruption some 60 million years ago, it quite literally has to be seen to be believed. It's so good that it is a listed World Heritage Site-the only one in Northern Ireland.
And while you're there…Take a scenic drive along the Antrim Coast - absolutely stunning and on a clear day you can even see Scotland!

Cyprus Car Hire And Cyprus Car Rental
Cyprus Car Hire And Cyprus Car Rental
By: kevinor
Cyprus car rental or Cyprus car hire as it is sometimes referred to is probably the best way to get around the Island. In fact if you are staying in a rented Cyprus villa or luxury apartment a car is a must. The buses in Cyprus are sporadic at best and only cover the areas such as resorts or the main towns. Taxis are only a viable option if you possess more money than sense and walking is great for your health but not such a good idea in temperatures up to 40c in the summer. So if you want less hassle and more Cyprus a Cyprus car hire deal is what you should be looking for.
Isn't the internet great? You can find virtually anything on the world wide web including of course all the best deals on Cyprus car hire. You are at liberty to compare like for like vehicles with lots of different companies without even leaving the comfort of your own home. Neat or what? You can book your Cyprus hire car on line and collect it from the airport when you arrive in Cyprus for the start of your holiday and return it when you come back to the airport to return home. You will have already saved the cost of your two way transfer to your accommodation and escaped the hassle of being driven round the Island before finally arriving at your hotel or apartment which was probably the nearest one to the airport anyway.
Then you wouldl miss all the fun of fishing your cases from the depths of the coaches luggage hold in the dark and lugging them up three flights of stairs in the middle of the night too. Cyprus car hire certainly does make good sense if you want to save yourself a lot of hassle and enjoy a stress free holiday from day one. Remember that the Cyprus summer is HOT! and be sure to specify a car with air conditioning. Those trendy little jeeps look like great fun for cruising around Cyprus but once the sun has fried your scalp they do seem to loose a little of their appeal. The same goes for cabriolets too. You will look real cool cruising down the strip but not so pretty after the hot Cyprus sun has turned you into a cross between a leopard and a lobster.
If you are already sold on the idea of Cyprus car hire it's worth a reminder about some Cyprus car rental essentials. No drivers licence no Cyprus hire car! If you can't produce both your counterfoil and your photo licence you won't be driving anywhere in Cyprus. (Ha well where's the coach park) Also remember to carry your photo card license with you and the hire documents whenever you drive the car because in Cyprus failure to do so is an offence that carries an on the spot fine. In the unlikely event that you are involved in an accident no matter how minor, do NOT! move the vehicle and make sure the police are informed as well as calling your Cyprus car hire company. These steps are crucial because in Cyprus the police deal directly with the motor insurance companies as to who is at fault in any incident.
The roads are pretty good on the whole although you should exercise a little care if you take a Cyprus hire car off the main highways. With all the building work that is going on in Cyprus some of the back roads have been dug up so many times that they look like patchwork quilts and it is often difficult to tell where the road ends or the verge starts. The main routes however are as good (if not better) than those in other parts of mainland Europe but without any of the traffic problems or other driving stresses like road rage and traffic congestion. There is a modern motorway network between the main towns and principle coastal resorts that puts the crappie U.K. road network to shame. (what do they spend all that road fund duty on?)
The chances are that once you have hired a car for your Cyprus holiday you wouldn't dream of being without one when you come to the Island again. The freedom of the open road is still a reality in Cyprus and driving is still an enjoyable pastime there. In fact many ex pats that make visits back to the U.K. find the driving there a real nightmare. So if you want to wring the most out of your time on this beautiful Island and see places that the regular tourist miss out on sort yourself a Cyprus car rental deal.

Car rental companies, along with many other travel industry service providers, have played a crucial role in improving the ease of travel by providing a service through which travelers can easily rent a car of their preference. One can hire a car of any color, shape and model at reasonable prices from these car rental companies.
Being able to rent a car is an essential service, especially as the number of companies requiring car rental services has greatly increased in the last few years. Besides manual reservations, most car rental companies have developed interactive websites to assist in making online reservations thus aiding travelers. Be aware that some car rental companies have geographic restrictions on their cars. You’ll need to know where you intend to go and make sure that your rental agreement allows that. It is recommended that customers make use of the yellow pages or the internet for locating a reliable international car rental company. It is essential to verify if the car rental company chosen has availability of their preferred car model and within the desired price range. There are many car rental companies in the Middle East with branches in different countries that can help customers rent the model group of their choice. Rental cars are available in exchange for a fee for a fixed number of days. A rental day is normally always 24hrs. In some cases, driving distance is limited beyond which customers are expected to pay for extra miles. With National Car Rental you often benefit from unlimited mileage.
An increasing number of people are traveling in the Middle East today as compared to a decade earlier. Competition among companies to achieve business objectives has resulted in enhanced pressure on executives to travel. In order to effectively manage their time and money, many executives resort to renting a car while traveling from one city or state to another. Most business executives and also some leisure travelers look for that extra degree of convenience, comfort and safety. Car rental companies provide the solution to these needs. It really doesn’t matter where in the world you’re traveling to or from. You can easily rent a car to take care of your transportation needs. People even rent cars from the local car rental company in their home town.
Why? Possibly because their car isn’t as late model as they would like, yet they still want to take some time and get away. A rented car, which has been rented from an office sited in one city, can be easily dropped at another office situated in a different city.

Advice On Car Rental Franchising
Advice On Car Rental Franchising
Everyone complains about how bad the public transport system is in America. But the good news is that the opportunities this "car culture" affords to the savvy entrepreneur are very attractive.
Whether their own car is being serviced, whether they are away on holiday and have left their family vehicle at home, or whether they simply want to hire a top of the range model for a special occasion, motorists across the US are in need of rental cars.
Indeed figures show that some 45.5 million people visit America from abroad every year, and what better way to travel from state to state and see the sights along the way than to hire a car? Therefore investing in a car rental franchise could be an excellent opportunity for those with the skill and the know-how to succeed.
A car rental franchise is an expensive investment. There is the site to purchase, staff wages to pay, insurance costs to cover, and of course most importantly the cars to buy and maintain. A car rental business would therefore be suited to an entrepreneur with a good deal of experience, since the start up costs and the day to day outgoings will be significant, and only those confident of success can afford to take the risk.
Rental cars will travel a great many miles so it’s important that they are serviced regularly and replacement parts installed whenever necessary. A good franchiser will help in this task, so extensive knowledge of cars is not essential. However franchisees must take responsibility for managing their own costs and making sure maintenance is up to standard if they want to start making desirable profits.
In the end however, turnover will be determined by the size of the town the car rental franchise is located in. Clearly a small town franchise will rake in fewer profits than a city-based business, but equally the number of vehicles required and the demand for maintenance will be less. Franchisees must therefore consider carefully what size of business they are capable of running and what level of profits they hope to be turning over before signing a deal with a franchiser.
Another important consideration for a franchisee to make is what kind of business they wish to run. They are a great many car rental franchise opportunities out there, but not all are the same. Potential investors need to decide whether they want to take on a budget car rental business, a commercial vehicle rental business, or indeed a limousine hire service for weddings and special occasions.
They should therefore make sure they assess the demand for different rental services in their chosen area extremely carefully before motoring ahead with a specific type of franchise.
If the demand is there however, and the franchisee has the drive and the determination to make their business a success, fighting off the competition along the way, then investing in a car rental franchise could prove an extremely lucrative opportunity.

Car Rental In Aruba
Car Rental In Aruba
By: Jorge Jimenez
Since it’s beginning, the humanity have always traveled one way or another. Either by migrating, either by going from one place to another to see different cultures, civilizations or landscapes. Going to visit a place all by yourself, implies a freedom of movement which can be obtained by renting a car and here we can give an example: Aruba car rental. Having your own car offers you the possibility to go almost anywhere you want.
The service of car rental in Aruba, just like any other rental service in any other place provides different types of cars, perfect for every possible wish. When going somewhere with your family it is obvious that you need a big and spacious car. Do not forget that you need space to deposit you luggage and the presents and souvenirs you will buy. If you are brave enough and decide to have a country tour all by yourself a small car is always the perfect solution, so you can easily slip in heavy traffic. Do think of what is your purpose when going in this kind of trip. This is going to help you in choosing a car from the car rental in Aruba or in other city or country.
But why rent a car when you can go by bus? Well because you can freely visit what you want, when you want. You are not restrained by the fix routes of the bus or taxies; you are not delayed by a bus that does not arrive in time. Also, let us not forget about the space that a personal car, even if rented, can offer. Of course you should not exaggerate as the trip back can be made with a plane and it would not be very wise to carry tones of luggage after you. Anyway, however you look at it, Aruba car rental, and in fact any other car rental service is a great option for those who like to move without restrictions.
Then again we must also think of the costs and possibility of renting a car. A research should be made in advance so as to see whether the type of car you seek is available. In addition it is advisable to call to many car rental services. For example, even if you heard that Aruba car rental is better than the others, you should not fully trust what you hear. There may be other offers that are more suitable for your possibilities. Another thing that one must have is a driving license, and see if it is accepted in that certain country. Surely you would not want to go there ready and have the surprise that they do not accept you because of these kinds of problems.
To conclude, after better analyzing the situation, either you choose Aruba car rental, or any other car rental service, you should think twice before making a choice, and be sure that what you choose is what really suits you. But, all in all, for those who like to be free on their trip, a car rental service is perfect.

Finding a Rental Car in Sydney, Australia
Finding a Rental Car in Sydney, Australia
by Amy Nut
Sydney is a popular place for people to visit when they arrive in Australia. The city, however, is large and it`s just not possible to walk everywhere and see everything. A rental car is the perfect solution, but many people worry about how and where to find one, with minimum hassle.
Having a rental car from the very beginning is a useful way to go. You`ll find that it`s easier to get to and from your hotel and there`s no trying to find the rental company in a taxi that is charging by the minute.
Advantages of Renting a Car
There are quite a few reasons to rent a car, whether you are traveling for business or pleasure.
- Freedom to take off and see the sights that you want to see, even if there`s no bus tour there.
- Easier to get around than trying to figure out the buses and trains.
- If you are staying with friends or family, you don`t need to bother them if you plan to see something that they have no interest in.
- Travel to small towns outside Sydney, or just enjoy a drive along the coast, it`s a beautiful sight. - Get to business meetings on time.
- Rental cars are far cheaper than taking taxis everywhere.
Get a Car at the Airport
The best place to rent your vehicle for the time you are in Sydney is right at the airport. It gives you full access to a car, right from the start and you`ll be free to go wherever you want from the airport, even if you choose not to head straight to your hotel. If you have friends or family in the city, this is the perfect way to reach them and avoid making them come pick you up.
By picking up your vehicle as soon as you get off the plane, you can load your bags up and head out without any hassles. There`s no waiting for a taxi or trying to find a hotel shuttle that will get you where you need to go, mixing up your luggage with other people`s. Instead, you can fit everything into your vehicle and head off, to wherever you prefer, even stopping to eat before going to the hotel, if you like, and unpack at your leisure.
Another advantage to this is lower costs. If you are going to drop a rental car off at a different location, you`d have to find a taxi to take you to the airport, or, if you chose to leave the car at the airport, you`d probably pay a fee for this. By picking up your car at the airport, you can return it there for no extra fees.
Tips for Arranging a Rental Car
It is always a good idea to call ahead and book a vehicle. The Sydney airport can get pretty full and there`s no guarantee that the car you want will be there when you arrive, so having it set aside before you arrive is best. If, for some reason, they are out of the vehicle you requested, you should get upgraded for no charge.
Double check your booking the day that you leave for Australia, just to be sure. It also helps to check online to find out where the rental car company is and to head there once you`ve collected your luggage.
Rental cars are extremely useful for getting around, particularly if you are used to driving and aren`t accustomed to the public transport in Sydney. It can save you quite a bit of money over taxis, as well.

Treviso Airport Car Hire Made Simple
Treviso Airport Car Hire Made Simple
by Michelle Elkins
Although many people fly into Treviso Airport en route to Venice, the medieval city of Treviso just 4km from the airport is worth a visit in itself. From the charming Piazza dei Signori to the impressive 13th century S. Nicolo Cathedral, the city has its own canals and magnificent architecture to be admired during a romantic weekend away. To take it all in, the best option is to organise a Treviso Airport Car Rental.
There are 9 Treviso Airport Car Hire companies, all of which are situated in the arrivals hall. These are Autoeuropa, Avis, Budget, Easy Car, Europcar, Hertz, Locauto Tirreno, Maggiore and Sixt. Each offers a wide range of vehicles which are well-maintained and generally less than 8 months old and provide optional extras including child safety seats to ski racks.
If you are considering doing the trip in seriously style, then most have a selection of higher end cars to choose from. Europcar´s different models include a Porsche Boxter from their performance category, a Mercedes CLS Class Coupé within their luxury range and the Range Rover Vogue makes up part of their utility section. You could even have someone doing the driving for you with their rather luxurious chauffeur service. On the other hand, if you hired the Aston Martin Vantage from Avis Prestige collection, you might just want to put the meddle to the peddle yourself.
For those who would rather not drive a gas guzzler, there are several firms which offer more economical options. Hertz´s green collection counts the Toyata Prius Hybrid among its fleet, and for people with disabilities, Europcar provides specially fitted vehicles with Lynx hand controls.
When making the booking be sure to check what is included in the price of the quote. These tend to not only vary from company to company but from car to car. For example Easy Car factor unlimited mileage, VAT, road tax and airport charges into the quoted figure, while Budget includes local tax, collision damage waiver, theft protection, vehicle registration fee and unlimited mileage. This sounds good but it doesn´t cover you should you or your passengers get hurt in an accident and definitely make sure to find out what the excess would be, as with some companies it can be as much as €1000. In these cases, it would be advisable to take out extra insurance with whichever Treviso Car Hire firm you are using.
Planning to do a lot of driving? Then it might be worth including an extra driver on to the policy which you can usually do for a small charge. With Budget this costs roughly an extra €4.96 per day. Or you may just fancy hiring a car as a one off for a day trip. Locauto Tirreno specialise in both long term and very short term rentals starting from just 6 hours. Another one of the Italian Treviso Car Rental firms, Maggiore, also offer petrol coupons of up to €40 depending on the length of the contract.
In fact they all do promotional offers of one kind or another, whether its speedy check-in like Avis and Sixt or deals in conjunction with the airlines, such as Hertz who work in partnership with Ryanair to give their passengers special rates.

Amazing Secrets to Alamo Car Rental
Amazing Secrets to Alamo Car Rental
by Antoine Massey
When a car is needed for a vacation or business trip, consider an Alamo car rental. With the abuse a car takes on a long trip, renting is a good alternate choice. Car rental isn't as expensive as some people think. Some are available for only $1 per day. That's a fantastic deal.
Alamo started way back in 1974 in Florida. Their primary business was for vacation rentals, as no other companies were serving that niche at the time. Since Florida was a popular vacation destination, it only made sense. Alamo pioneered some of the more common car rental concepts of today. One of these was unlimited mileage rental. The last thing vacationers want to do is worry about how many miles they're driving. It wasn't long before Alamo accommodated these people.
Large plaza locations were first put into service by Alamo. In 1974 most rental companies served repeat business clients. There wasn't a lot of walk up traffic. But vacationers often showed up on the spot and in large numbers all at the same time. Again Alamo responded, this time with facilities to quickly serve the masses. The goal was getting people in the car and off the lot quickly.
Alamo also came up with rental insurance and booking online. To remove the concern over dings and dents, Alamo provided low cost temporary car coverage. In 1995 Alamo launched on line booking. It was another big first.
Renters today don't care about firsts. One car rental company is a lot like another. Reliable cars that don't break the bank are what matters. Alamo certainly has both. Daily rates start around $20 daily. No other company is any lower. Free hotel stays and airline trips are easy to earn through Alamo.
In 1974 Alamo had a dream about providing car rentals. But now Alamo car rental is one of the top rental companies in the world.

Secrets to Budget Car Rental
Secrets to Budget Car Rental

When a car is in the shop, or there's a business trip, or they need a car for a few days to run errands, people rent cars. Choosing a car rental company isn't easy. One with a big marketing budget is Budget. So many people consider a Budget car rental. The name also helps create the connection between renting from that company and the lowest price. It's not true, but it's a good marketing technique.
Budget doesn't only rent cars. Moving, hauling - trucks are also served out by the company. Budget trucks are more comfortable and stylish than the average truck. Unlike many other trucks these trucks come with power everything and even air conditioning. What a relief compared to other trucks with bumpy, loud rides and practically no comforts. There's a big difference between vans and Budget trucks. The interior has no bulge for a wheel well. That means more cargo and ability to shift it around. Like many truck rental companies Budget sells the trucks after they've been in service for a time. That leads to another great feature of Budget trucks. They're generally newer trucks in excellent working condition. Nobody wants a break down on moving day.
It's not convenient to own a car in cities like New York. Excellent bus lines along with high costs of fuel and tolls leads to this decision. A car is sometimes necessary, however. When the load is too much to carry on a bus, that's one time. It could also be they just want a drive. {In any case, a rental car is the solution|This calls for a rental car|This is a job for a car rental|. Budget has cars that rent for about $160 a week, a real bargain. That can be a lot cheaper than ownership. With the price of parking, maintenance, insurance and registration, it ends up cheaper to rent on occasion.

Tips For Renting a Car
Tips For Renting a Car
by Ramon Maghsoudi
I have worked in rental car companies for about four years and since I dealt with different companies it was a very good experience to understand how they run the business. I got some tips that might be useful for your next rental car experience since I know almost everyone hates rental cars! Read this article to avoid those "fine prints" and fraudulent companies.
Getting a DEAL:
* you can always get a "much" cheaper price if you book early. That is usually more than 15 days in advance and if it during a busy holiday like Christmas, make sure you have a reservation a month in advance.
* Always rent the smallest car you can book but big enough to fit. Most of the rental car companies are out of small cars 70% of the time so the chance getting a free upgrade is high. Again, make sure what you book is big enough to fit your passengers and luggage.
* Remember that the longer you rent, the cheaper the price is, it's a simple fact. Rental car companies hate to keep cars on their lot!
* Weekend are always cheaper than weekdays just because they have more cars on hand.
* A weekly rental is usually a good deal and most of the rental places consider 5-7 days, a week.
* Car rental places at the airports usually have much higher prices than the ones off-airport. The reason is the fee that airport charges you and them. Off-airport companies do not have to the airport and most of them offer free pick-up and drop-off from a nearby airport. (There is always rental car places close to any airport!)
The Process:
* Remember, when you get to a rental place, they will try to charge for anything possible. It's their business.
* One thing that most of the people don't realize is that the agent behind the counter has the power to give you free upgrades! So, be nice!
* DO NOT sign before reading the contract. Working in one of the biggest rental car companies in the U.S. I have seen contracts change more than twice in 3 months! So if you think you rent often and you know what that contract says, think again!
* Always ask for a "complementary" upgrade. If you are nice and they have plenty of extra vehicles for that day, they will give you a free upgrade or maybe for a little charge.
* Make certain that you understand the rental terms and coverages. Rental car insurance is often called different things in different companies. Call your own insurance company before declining coverage from a rental car company.
* Some companies charge for extra driver, ask about it if you have a second driver.
* Again, sign the contract after you read the whole and understand the charges. Also ask for an estimated total because they will never give you an exact total.
* When you get to your car check "everything" inside and outside; Check the car key and remote for broken ones, go around the car to make sure there is no scratches. If you find any problems, dents, or scratches make sure an employee or manager notes it down on your contract and initials it.
* Make sure the gas tank is full if it was suppose to be full.
After the Rental:
* Make sure you gas up if you did not prepay the gas.
* Always ask for a receipt if you don't get one.
* Go through the final receipt and make sure it matches the original contract.
Just like any other business, rental car companies are in the business of making money. It is your job to understand the terms and follow them to pay no extra charges. Enjoy your vacation!

Too Old To Drive A Rental Car?
Too Old To Drive A Rental Car?
by Car Guru
As the population in Australia gets older, the problem of renting a car both in Australia and overseas becomes more of an issue. Most car companies will have some kind of restriction if the older generation is looking to rent a vehicle. Whilst you may think that as someone that has been driving for 50 years or more, car rental companies can see you as a major risk to their asset.
The Senior Driver Surcharge is payable by senior drivers over &/or between a specific age. This depends on country and/or car rental company. It is just the same as our car insurance companies here in Australia charge a higher premium if you have a driver aged 21 years on the insurance.
The reason why it is charged is because the car rental company sees senior drivers as high risk and they get charged a premium to have senior drivers covered by their insurance company. However, other car rental companies just restrict the driving age so they don't have to get additional insurance.
To give you a few examples on how it differs between suppliers, let's take a look at Car Rental in ireland. One car rental company has a maximum age of 74 years with no surcharge payable. Another car rental company charges a EUR29 incl Tax /day fee for drivers aged between 70-74 years. And, a third car rental company doesn't charge a surcharge but they require additional documentation from driver's aged between 76-79 years, as follows -
1) Note from their Insurers stating that they have not been involved in any accidents within the past 5 years.
2) Note from their doctor stating that they are in full health.
When booking your car rental, it is advisable to always be truthful of the age/s of all drivers and ask the car rental company if there are any additional conditions for senior driver's. Failure to do so may result in you using public transport to get around on your holiday.

The El Panama Hotel - Classic Luxury in Panama
The El Panama Hotel - Classic Luxury in Panama
by Veraz
One of the most famous classic luxury hotels in Panama City, the El Panama Hotel is a historical landmark, currently aged about 50 years. I'll call it a beach hotel in Panama because Panama sits right on the bay of the Pacific Ocean. Designed with the airy tropical concept in mind, the hotel is currently being renovated. The first time I heard about this hotel was in the movie "The Tailor of Panama", created in 2001. If you don't let the renovations bother you, you will hardly notice and they'll soon be finished with remarkable improvements.
Situated in the downtown of Panama in the El Cangrejo neighbourhood, the hotel is less than a half hour from the airport. El Cangrejo is safe to stroll around 24 hours a day. Enjoy a walk in the evening and you will feel okay. Many tourist police (that is the policemen without guns are all over the place, assuring you of your safety and a low crime rate. Get a map of the neighbourhood at the reception desk of El Panama Hotel to help avoid expensive taxi rides everywhere. Just go out the front door of the hotel, turn right to Veneto Avenue and go in any direction to see many other of the 4 and 5 star hotels, casinos, shopping, restaurants, car rental agencies in the area, all a short walking distance away.
I found the big open aired, Latin/Caribbean tropical style of the hotel design very pleasing and elevates you into that tropical mood for your Panama vacation. This hotel has a very Panamanian feeling to it which gives a certain ambiance to this 5 star hotel in Panama. In the lobby you will discover many of several very fancy shops. The swimming pool of the hotel is large, the surrounded by tropical foliage and is wonderful. There is a restaurant by the pool which serves great food and a swim-up bar in the pool. The swimming pool is hour glass shaped, marvellous to swim in and hang out around the pool, people watching and catching some rays. You can rent a cabaña on the ground-floor, and have instant access to the pool. The pervasive feeling of luxury and comfort makes this hotel in Panama an ideal holiday escape for romance such as honeymoons for newlyweds, couples wishing to kick back, romantic getaways for younger and older travelers, disabled travelers and families.
There are 330 guest rooms at El Panama including standard, junior Suites, Cabanas by the pool, and a presidential suite. You can even have butler service on one of the two executives floors which gives you personalized assistance as well as private meeting rooms if you're a business traveller. For the people that like to keep fit, there is a spa and sauna to use.
My suite, although the air conditioning was set a little to cold, was superb and had all the modern comforts such as high speed internet access, cable TV, telephone, and a safe to lock up my valuables. The room was clean, large with tiled floors. However, I must say, maybe because of the downtown location and the noisy traffic below, it was, sometimes hard to sleep at night. Still, I loved my stay at the El Panama Hotel and would definitely recommend it to a friend.
There are quite a few restaurants at the hotel that serve up delicious cuisine. There is a different breakfast buffet served daily which is included in the price and is an excellent way to start your day in Panama City.
The business center is good for the business traveller with internet available for a couple of dollars per hour. There are 35 meeting rooms and a convention center on the premises. It is a popular place for international conventions and you will find it is a favourite luxury hotel in Panama for Latin American and European visitors to book their vacations in Panama at this hotel. The staff, although they don't speak a lot of English are friendly and efficient. The service provided was excellent. The restaurant serves great food and the service is excellent. For the gamblers among us, there is a casino and nightclub attached to the hotel. It is a more pleasant stay than the chain hotels which lack the atmosphere and ambiance of the El Panama in Panama City, so if you can ignore the renovations and want something in a more Panamanian style, definitely try this classic hotel. Remember, the renovations will not last forever at this luxury hotel in Panama City.

Car rental coupons
Car rental coupons
by Richard Walker
Diligent shoppers clip coupons. Shopping trips can be a lot cheaper with coupons. People can save a lot of money on car rentals by using discount codes and car rental coupons.
Marketing people love coupons. As advertising tools they're invaluable because they get to people's homes in magazines and mailers. The discount encourages people to purchase a brand they wouldn't otherwise try. It's common knowledge that a big part of the battle is getting people to try something. They'll keep buying good products. New customers are gained and existing ones keep loyal through coupons. In the rental car business where one offer and company looks a lot like the next, that's important.
People who don't use coupons are penalized with a higher price. In fact, that's the way a smart consumer looks at coupons. The coupon price is the price when the coupon is always available. When products have coupon available, only a dummy would pay the full price.
For car rentals there are plenty of sites that help people find the best deals, coupons and discount codes. Retail Me Not, http://www.retailmenot.com is one. Find more with an MSN search. Many of these coupons or discount codes depend on other items, such as using a particular credit card when paying or a particular online service when booking. Always look at the overall price when coupons are available at some sites. For instance a car may be $20 a day to rent on one site with a coupon, but only $19 on another site even without a coupon. Coupons are a tool to guide people to certain things. A coupon product may not always be the right choice.
In the rental car business the bargains don't always require coupons. These can be deals such as $1 a day rental for one way travel to Florida during the fall, to special discounts for government employees and members of the military. Sometimes free rentals are available.
Car rental coupons should definitely be taken into consideration when looking for a rental vehicle. Use the coupon, the specials, the codes, every tool available to cut down the cost.
Smart shoppers use coupons. Coupons can help people save a lot of money in the course of every day shopping. It's no different in the car rental business where car rental coupons and online discount codes help people rent cars in some cases for a ridiculously low cost.
Coupons are a marketing tool. They're often available in magazines and serve to advertise a product. They make people aware of a brand and because of an offered discount encourage people to try the brand. People have to learn about a product before they'll purchase it. Particularly if it's quality, they'll keep using it. New customers are gained and existing ones keep loyal through coupons. That's important in the rental car industry where the companies look so similar.
Coupons offer the good price while non-coupon shoppers pay a penalty. In fact, that's the way a smart consumer looks at coupons. Because so many people have the coupon, it can be considered to deliver the actual price. When products have coupon available, only a dummy would pay the full price.
It's easy to find coupons and discount codes for rented cars online. Many car rental companies frequently list coupon discounts. Use Google or Yahoo to search for more. Many of these coupons and discounts are contingent on the use of a certain service or travel agent. Compare total price, not just coupons. For instance a car may be $20 a day to rent on one site with a coupon, but only $19 on another site even without a coupon. Remember that coupons are often used to encourage people to select something they wouldn't otherwise purchase. Think about why people look to other products before choosing one just because there's a coupon.
